1976 27’ Alden Coot

This is my personal yacht. Hurricane Katrina got a hold of her, along with everything else of mine. She is a gaff rigged schooner. She draws 4’, has 10’ beam, and is a real beauty. Her hull is Honduras Mahogany, sports a wood burning stove, and is totally traditionally rigged. There is not a winch to be found on her. She is easily single handed, and is extremely fast when you put a bone in her teeth. It will be blowing 18 knots before I even think about putting in the first reef. I have embarrassed some modern yachts of the same size during scratch races, including close hauled legs. She points high, but really performs when you fall off a bit. Restoration will begin on her when my house gets finished (my wife demanded I build her a house before restoring the boat. Can you imagine? Where are her priorities?).
